Journalist Pathak appears at Kathmandu District Court

Journalist Pathak’s statement and bail hearing will take place before the bench of Judge Khemraj Bhatta; his statement will be recorded today, followed by a detention hearing, according to the court officials. The verdict is also to be announced today itself.

KATHMANDU, July 3: Journalist Dilbhusan Pathak appeared at the Kathmandu District Court on Thursday morning. He reached the court at around 9 a.m.


Journalist Pathak’s statement and bail hearing will take place before the bench of Judge Khemraj Bhatta; his statement will be recorded today, followed by a detention hearing, according to the court officials. The verdict is also to be announced today itself.

On June 30, the Cyber Bureau filed a case against Pathak under the Electronic Transactions Act. Based on complaint number 59 filed at the Cyber Bureau, the District Government Attorney’s Office filed a case against Pathak under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008, accusing him of publishing baseless content in electronic form.


The case may result in either a fine of up to Rs 100,000, a prison sentence of up to five years, or both.


A month ago, Pathak had published a video report on the Hilton Hotel and Jaybir Deuba, son of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, through his YouTube channel, Tough Talk with Dilbhusan Pathak.


Following complaints related to that video, the Cyber Bureau issued a summons against him.
