By-elections likely in Rupandehi and Manang in last week of October

KATHMANDU, June 20: The Election Commission is preparing to hold by-elections in the second week of Kartik for vacant seats in the House of Representatives and the Gandaki Provincial Assembly.


During a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari and other commissioners discussed the upcoming by-elections and the election of 18 National Assembly members whose terms will expire on March 4.

The two parliamentary seats to be filled are in Rupandehi Constituency-3 (House of Representatives) and Manang-1(2) (Gandaki Provincial Assembly). The commission, in consultation with the government, plans to announce the official date by June 30.


Additionally, the Election Commission informed that 13 ward chairperson posts in local levels remain vacant. Prime Minister Oli assured that the government would provide the necessary support to facilitate the elections and also urged the commission to begin preparations for upcoming periodic elections.
