Former PM Nepal appears at Special Court for statement

His statement will be recorded before the bench comprising Justices Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Bidur Koirala. After the statement, the bench will proceed with the detention hearing.

KATHMANDU, June 25: Former Prime Minister and Chairperson of CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, appeared at the Special Court on Wednesday to give his statement in the Patanjali land case.


His statement will be recorded before the bench comprising Justices Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Bidur Koirala. After the statement, the bench will proceed with the detention hearing.

On June 5, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against Nepal and 93 others over the alleged transaction of land in Kavre that was under land ceiling exemption and registered in the name of Patanjali Yogpeeth and Ayurvedic Company Nepal during his tenure as Prime Minister in 2009.


In Nepal’s case, a fine and punishment equivalent to Rs 185.85 million in losses has been demanded.


Following the filing of the corruption case, he was suspended from his position as a lawmaker. 


Meanwhile, the Unified Socialist has called the Secretariat meeting for June 27 to discuss the issue as well.
