Monsoon spreads across Nepal; heavy rainfall likely in five provinces

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some parts of the Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in one or two places in the remaining provinces.

KATHMANDU, JUNE 21: Nepal is currently under the influence of monsoon winds. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather across the country is partly to generally cloudy. 


Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some parts of the Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in one or two places in the remaining provinces.

In the afternoon, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly areas and at a few places in other regions. Heavy rain is expected at one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light rain or snowfall is also likely in some high-hill and mountainous areas.


Tonight, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as at a few places in other provinces. Very heavy to heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light rain or snowfall is also likely in some high-hill and mountainous regions.


There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in some hilly areas and a few other places across the country. As heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two locations in the Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, the department has issued a warning that rising river levels, flash floods, landslides, and soil erosion may occur. People are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid possible inconvenience, risks, or damages to public health, agriculture, daily life, roads, and air transport.
